Chillcast Video #37: Lovespirals "Home" Premier

The Chillcast with Anji Bee presents the world premier of the video for “Home” by Lovespirals! This is the first-ever music video for Lovespirals, so we are pretty excited. The video was created using HD footage we filmed at the beautiful Newport Back Bay estuary, combined with footage from the ride home after mastering Future Past in Northern California. Its an intimate video with a dreamy feel that we hope you will enjoy. We’ll be making the video available on all your favorite video services soon, so stay tuned!

I meant to say the overlapping video was great. It’s a way of playing 2 or 3 times the amount of video at once! I found my focus shifting from one to the other. Dreamy effect. It certainly makes the video very rewatchable.

The whole retro look is just beautiful. I think the fact that the video was off the cuff lends the end result an organic aspect.

love the new vid, anji & ryan! so cool that you shot some of it on the drive HOME from nor cal! can’t wait to have you up here very soon for our show on feb 26th!!!

thanks jason.

i didn’t give a whole lot of info about creating the video, but the process was a fairly simple one. all the footage was shot on my little mino flip hd camcorder. the way it handles light is very interesting! i’m not sure what created those red lines going through the picture in some shots, but the error makes it feel like old film, doesn’t it? and when you point the camcorder into the sun, it seems to create lens flares like analog cameras.

i thought i’d see what it looked like if i layered 2 or 3 pieces of video in final cut express — running the “screen” effect on the top one — and i really liked the result. then i just faded various pieces in and out and VOILA! it was mainly a matter of finding my favorite shots and trying to line up my mouth saying “home” as best as i could.

so now you know all my secrets. 🙂

I’m pretty excited about this video too. Nice choice of scenery. We get to see both band members and there’s a lovely overexposure and lens flare. Looks archival. Very lovely. The “effects” remind me of the beautiful set of covers for Goldfrapp’s “Seventh Tree”.
