Echoes Reviews Falling You ‘Metanoia’ CD

Echoes Radio host John Diliberto has chosen Falling You’s new album, Metanoia, as the CD of the Month for March 2026. Not only will it be featured on the nationally syndicated program tomorrow night (Monday 3/2/26), but there is also a lovely review posted on the site.

Echoes March CD of the Month: ‘Metanoia’ by Falling You. Brush up on your Greek mythology when we journey from the ancient to the future with Falling You’s deliriously beautiful and poignant remaking of ancient, archetypal myths as searing dream pop.

Of the track that Ryan and Anji Lum contributed lyrics, vocals, instruments, and production to, Diliberto said:

The album ends with the third epic track, “Philomena,” named for the Christian martyr. It’s a tale which illustrates that Catholics could match Greek and Roman mythological legends in fantastical tales. Vocalist Anji Lum turns it into a fable of strength over adversity with Ryan Lum dropping-in ambient guitar textures and reverberant, blues-laced accents. It’s a track that ends the album as strong as it began.

Reviews of Falling You ‘Metanoia’

Reviews continue to emerge for Falling You’s Metanoia, released this past December. Several of them have mentioned Anji’s work on the album closer, “Philomena.”

New Age Music Reviews said of the track:

“Philomena,” also known as Saint Philomena or Philomena of Rome…wraps up this incredibly engaging and spacious musical offering with ambient synths, gorgeous piano notes, and magical vocals. Anji Lum takes her place amongst the many incredible women performers, vocalizing to the music like an angel sent from heaven. It is one minute short of another 10-minute musical journey of diverse sounds and textures to capture your imagination. Simply beautiful, like all the tracks you will hear prior to this closer.

“Philomena” Featured on Journeyscapes Radio

“Philomena,” our collaboration with Falling You—featuring vocals/lyrics by Anji Lum and guitar/production by Ryan Lum—was recently featured on “PGM 400: ENCHANTED WORLDS 7” of Journeyscapes Radio. The milestone episode is described as a “lush chill mix of ethereal ambient, downtempo & dream pop.” The Metanoia album track appears early in the 1 hour set, drifting through spacious ambient textures and dreamy late-night tones with no distracting talk in-between songs.

Lovespirals Contribute to Falling You ‘Metanoia’

It’s been eight years since ambient musician John Zorko last released an album under his Falling You collective, but he’s finally returned with a new full-length inspired by the myths of Ovid’s Metamorphoses.

John reached out to Anji Lum in 2023 to contribute lyrics and vocals to a track for the project. As Anji explained in Chillin’ with Lovespirals Episode 101,  she initially struggled with how to approach the material before ultimately embracing the story of Philomena. The story of a woman transformed into a caged nightingale, using birdsong to achieve personal liberation and vindication, seemed fitting for the album’s theme. Her blend of original lyrics—sung in a soothing lower register—with spoken passages drawn from Sir Samuel Garth’s 1717 English translation of Ovid– bridges the modern and the archaic.

That fusion is further expanded through Ryan Lum’s contemporary production work, which introduces an anachronistic edge via subtle formant shifts and textural manipulation. In addition to recording and producing Anji’s vocals for “Philomena,” Ryan also contributed a bluesy electric guitar lead, and added additional percussion—marking his first true hands-on collaboration with the evolving Falling You collective.

Lovespirals Contribute To Falling You CD

The 2-time NAR Lifestyle Music Award winning musical project, Falling You, just released a new album entitled, Adore. Enigmatic band founder and producer, John Michael Zorko, has long worked with a revolving cast of talented and varied female vocalists including Victoria Lloyd (of Claire Voyant and Mono Chrome), Dru Allen (of Mirabilis and This Ascension), Erica Mulkey (AKA Unwoman), Shikhee (of Android Lust), and Love Spirals Downwards‘ own Suzanne Perry.

In her first appearance with Falling You, Lovespirals’ vocalist, Anji Bee, contributes lyrics and vocals to the ambient opening track, “Blessed,” penned about her relationship with bandmate, Ryan Lum, who engineered and recorded her vocal tracks for this long distance musical collaboration. Friend of Lovespirals and Falling You, Ken Lee (of Eleven Shadows), mixed and mastered the track (and indeed, the whole album) alongside Zorko at his Blueberry Buddha Recording Studios.

Lum’s former bandmate, Suzanne Perry, contributed lyrics and vocals to the track, “Champagne,” which follows Bee’s cut on the album. With its summery dream pop feel, Perry’s collaboration brings to mind her work with Melodyguild. Perry’s vocals were engineered and recorded by Melodyguild bandmate, Cris Miller (of Silver Screen). Perry had previously been featured on Falling You’s 2006 album, Human, and 2008 album, Faith.

Another highlight of the album is closing track, “Alchemy,” featuring Kirsty Hawkshaw. Famous for her work with Opus II, BT, Tiesto, and Delerium, Hawkshaw has a long and impressive list of dance music credits to her name. Her breathy voice and high harmonies add a lovely depth and focus to Zorko’s light-as-air beats and textures.

Though known for his melancholic mix of ambient textures and ethereal vocals, Zorko wanted to “explore a more optimistic side of emotional music and this gift called life.”  To this end, Zorko employed liberal use of heavy, distorted, electric guitar in the vein of classic 90’s shoegazer acts like My Bloody Valentine and Ride, which may surprise his long time listeners!

Adore is available as a digital download now directly from the Magnatune site, with CDs to follow soon. Watch for it on iTunes, Amazon, eMusic, etc later this month.

As a side note, Zorko contributed a Falling You remix to Lovespirals’ Love EP released in June 2010:

Feel the Love with a New Lovespirals EP

The first single from Lovespirals’ fourth album, Future Past, to get the full remix treatment is “Love” – an atmospheric drum ‘n’ bass tune that recalls some of the duo’s earliest work together. A half dozen producers from  different musical schools of thought set Anji Bee‘s poppy yet ethereal vocals to completely new musical scores. From angular drum ‘n’ bass, to lush downtempo, to atmospheric ambient music, this moody collection covers a lot of sonic ground. And Anji’s Chillcast listeners should be familiar with most — if not all — of the contributing producers which includes: Chill Factor-5, 7 Day Visa, Divasonic, Soul Whirling Somewhere, Xurba and Falling You (who, btw, created the only mix which contains Ryan Lum‘s original guitar solo.)

Remixes by Chill Factor-5 and & Day Visa are available as a FREE DOWNLOAD from LastFM (mark you favorite remixes with “Love This Track”) and SoundCloud. Both sites have built-in social media tools that allow you to easily repost links to emails, Twitter, Facebook, and other services with the “Share” pull down menus, so be sure to tell a friend!

Purchase the full EP or individual tracks from iTunes, Amazon Mp3, CDbaby, eMusic, Rhapsody, or Bandcamp

Podcasters, DJs, Internet DJs, and music bloggers are all encouraged to share these tunes with their audiences, as well. If you’re feeling the love, please write a review of the Love EP as Lovespirals would really appreciate you giving them a little love in return.
